Your prayers are heard because Jesus’ prayers are heard

Most of us experience difficulty in prayer. Often our difficulty in praying comes because we doubt whether God accepts our prayer since we feel like such inadequate pray-ers. We ask, “How can I know God hears me?” “How can I be sure God listens to me since I’m not that good at praying?” Or we wonder, “Why would God listen to my prayer since I don’t pray as often as I ought?”

The apostle Paul directs these concerns in his letter to the Galatians. In that letter Paul reminds Christians that the Spirit of Jesus prays within them:

And because you are sons, God has sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, crying, “Abba! Father!”So you are no longer a slave, but a son, and if a son, then an heir through God. (Gal 4:6-7 ESV)

If the Spirit of the Son is in our hearts, crying out to the Father, then this means that through Jesus, the Son, our prayer is accepted by the Father because Jesus’ prayer is accepted by the Father. This is a marvelous truth! Whether or not God accepts our prayer is not based on how well we pray or how often we pray, but on whether we are joined to Jesus, God’s son. If we have the Spirit of God, then we are not failures at prayer because the Lord Jesus is not a failure at prayer!

In other words, Jesus has justified our prayer life. It is in Jesus’ name that we pray and it is his relationship with the Father that is the basis on which we also approach God as our Abba Father.

So if you experience difficulty in prayer then be encouraged – as you strive to pray better and more regularly remember that it is because of Jesus that your prayer is accepted by the Father.
